This course will expand knowledge of the skeletomuscular system with emphasis on improving athletic performance and injuries. Sports related neuropathology and nutrition will be major topics. Significant class time will be devoted to standard Athletic Trainer illness and injury recognition and treatment protocols and students will be expected to participate in clinical and shadowing opportunities. ELA research and writing skills will be emphasized and tailored to individual student interests on such topics as sports specific overuse injuries; joint disorders of the aging athlete; chronic traumatic encephalopathy; and frontiers of spinal cord injury treatment. This course is highly recommended for students interested in pursuing careers in athletic training physical therapy, sports medicine or chiropractic medicine. Concurrent enrollment is acceptable.
